{{/presale}}Since 1997, silver enthusiasts have had the chance to collect the beautiful image of Britannia on the UK’s official silver bullion coins. Britannia’s legacy in the British Isles stretches back to the 1st century AD, and she now appears in a striking new design on silver bars from the Royal Mint of England. Right now, 10 oz British Silver Britannia Bars are available to purchase online from BGASC.
Highlights:
These 10 oz British Silver Britannia Bars mark the debut of Britannia’s design on a Royal Mint bullion bar. This design is also available on a 1 oz gold bar and a 100 oz silver bar. Each bar is individually packaged in protective plastic or can be ordered in bulk with 50 bars per box.
Obverse
The obverse of the 10 oz British Silver Britannia Bar features a new depiction of Britannia created for this series. This classical-inspired image shows Britannia in right-profile, holding a trident in one hand and a shield with the Union Jack in the other. She is clad in a lightly armored chest plate and a Corinthian helmet.
Reverse
The reverse side of the British Silver Britannia Bar displays the Royal Mint of England’s seal at the top. Beneath it are inscriptions of the bar’s weight, purity, and metal content. The background of both sides has wavy lines, and the bottom of this side includes additional sea waves in the design.
History
When the Roman Empire extended its reach beyond mainland Europe in the 1st century, the British Isles became its first conquest. After the Romans secured much of England, the province was named Britannia. Over time, Britannia evolved into a mythical figure believed to guard the Isles from invaders.
The Royal Mint of England, established in 886 by Alfred the Great, was unified into a single minting system in 1279. Jody Clark, who also created Queen Elizabeth IIs fifth-generation portrait for coins, designed the Britannia image on these bars.
