Obverse

The obverse of the 10 Peso Colombian Gold Coin features a right-profile relief of Simon Bolivar. In this design, Bolivar is depicted as a young man with rugged features and a serious demeanor. The coin also displays the markings of the nation and the year of issue.

Reverse

On the reverse, the national coat of arms of Colombia is showcased. The Andean condor, which represents freedom, is the central feature of the coat of arms. It is depicted with outstretched wings, holding an olive branch in its beakan emblem of peace, which was a primary goal for Bolivar. Below the condor, a pomegranate symbolizes the unity of the Colombian people, echoing Bolivar’s vision of a unified Gran Colombia.

History

Simon Bolivar, also known as “El Libertador” (The Liberator), is a pivotal figure in Colombia’s modern history. He played a key role in the independence movements throughout Latin America, including Colombia. His vision for a united Latin America influenced the design of the Colombian coat of arms, a symbol of the nations history and aspirations. Adopted in 1834, the coat of arms includes several elements that reflect Bolivar’s ideals and the nation’s struggle for independence.
