Obverse
The obverse of the 1847-C Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin showcases the elegant Lady Liberty, depicted in a left-profile portrait surrounded by 13 stars, wearing a coronet crown. Inscriptions read 1847, and LIBERTY.
Reverse
On the reverse side, you’ll find Christian Gobrecht’s majestic heraldic eagle design, featuring a front-facing bald eagle clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, with the national shield prominently displayed on its chest. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, C, and FIVE D.
History
Coins within the Fairmont Collection bearing the revered “C” mint mark signify their roots in the Charlotte Mint. Established in 1838, the Charlotte Mint, along with the Dahlonega Mint and New Orleans Mint, was among the first US Mint branches. Both Charlotte and Dahlonega Mints produced gold coins, supporting the conversion of local gold deposits into coinage. Both the Charlotte Mint and the Dahlonega Mint were in operation from 1838-1861.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. Most BGASC orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days.
