These 1873 Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coins are available in AU58 condition. This grade indicates the coins are nearly BU in quality, with only slight friction marks on the highest relief points and almost complete mint luster. As an Open 3 coin, these pieces have more distinct separation in the tips of the number 3 in the 1873 date.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1873 Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagles showcases a bust of Lady Liberty. Designed by Longacre, this image was inspired by Christian Gobrechts portrait of Liberty, showing her in left-profile with a coronet crown.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1873 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coins features the Great Seal of the United States. This design depicts a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield, clutching the olive branch of peace and arrows of war.
History
The US Eagle coin series was one of the earliest programs introduced by the United States Mint after its establishment in 1792. It included a $10 Eagle, $5 Half Eagle, and $2.50 Quarter Eagle. The California Gold Rush brought a surge of gold to the Treasury, prompting the US Mint to introduce the $20 Double Eagle. From its debut in 1850 until 1907, the $20 Double Eagle featured designs by James B. Longacre, the Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
