Each 1877-S Pre-33 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin arrives in a PCGS protective slab and has an XF40 grade. This grade signifies that 90% of the coins original details are still visible, though high points are worn and there is minimal luster.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1877-S Pre-33 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coin displays Lady Liberty in left-profile relief, with a coronet crown. Surrounding her are 13 stars representing the original American colonies. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 1877.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1877-S Pre-33 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Coin features a heraldic eagle designed by James B. Longacre, complete with a shield on its chestan iconic symbol of the Great Seal of the United States. The design is surrounded by the coin’s identifying marks. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TWENTY DOLLARS.
History
Produced between 1850 and 1907, these Liberty Gold Double Eagles have seen three different reverse designs. The coins were minted at five US Mint branches: Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
