Longacre in 1849, this coin entered circulation in 1850 and was embraced by the public. The Double Eagle primarily served as a medium for transactions between banks and merchants both within the United States and internationally. An AU grade indicates that the coins typically show medium to nearly full mint luster, with only minimal wear on the highest points or just faint signs of friction on the elevated details.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1878-S Liberty Double Eagle Coins, you will find Longacres depiction of Lady Liberty. This left-profile bust features Liberty adorned with a coronet crown and surrounded by a ring of 13 stars. The date of the coin is situated at the bottom of the field.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1878-S Pre-33 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Coin showcases the Great Seal of the United States, distinguishing these coins as Type III specimens, which incorporate the third design iteration. Alongside the bald eagle, national shield, arrows of war, and an olive branch, the coins prominently feature the TWENTY DOLLARS engraving for the denomination.
History
Following the American Civil War, gold production in the United States Mint was predominantly centered at the Carson City Mint and the San Francisco Mint. In 1878, the San Francisco Mint struck an impressive 1.739 million coins, far exceeding the Philadelphia Mints production of 543,625 coins. The Carson City Mint contributed an additional 13,180 coins to the overall total.

Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
