Obverse

The obverse of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins shows Lady Liberty in a portrait. This legendary bust was inspired by a real American woman from Philadelphia named Anna Willess Williams. Her profile was deemed perfect by Morgan and she ultimately sat five times for the legendary engraver.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1882-S Morgan Silver Dollars an American eagle flies with open wings as it looks left. To represent Americas wars and the peace she strives for, arrows and an olive branch are included in the birds talons. If you look below the motif, youll find the coins San Francisco mintmark.

History

The Morgan Silver Dollar was first struck at the San Francisco Mint in April 1878. Previously, the mint mainly produced gold coins due to the large reserves from the California Gold Rush. Today, the San Francisco location stands as one of the four active branches of the U.S. Mint. While it operates out of a new building, the Old San Francisco Mint still remains a national landmark.
