{{/presale}}The Morgan Silver Dollar stands as an important piece of American coin history, appreciated for its elegant design and historical value. First minted in 1878, the Morgan Dollar was produced annually until 1904, with a final minting in 1921 after a 17-year halt in silver dollar production. During its minting era, the US Mint had branch facilities in key cities like Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City, and Denver. Among these, the Carson City Morgan Dollars are particularly cherished by collectors. Currently, the 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available at BGASC.
Highlights:
All of these 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, each carefully packaged in plastic flips. For those interested in purchasing in larger quantities, these coins may also come in tubes of 20, when available. The Morgan Dollar is made from a blend of metals that includes 90% silver and 10% copper.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1883-CC Morgan Dollar, you will see a striking portrayal of Lady Liberty. This design, created by George T. Morgan in 1878, presents Liberty in left-profile relief, adorned with a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and coronet. Surrounding her are 13 stars that enhance the symbolism of the coin.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar features a classic representation of the heraldic eagle, also designed by Morgan. This design showcases a frontal view of a bald eagle with its wings spread wide, holding arrows of war in one talon and an olive branch signifying peace in the other.
History
The Carson City Mint was specifically built by the United States Mint to capitalize on local silver discoveries in the American West. From 1878 to 1885, the Carson City Mint struck Morgan Dollars each year. After a three-year pause from 1886-1888, it resumed production in 1889 and continued making Morgan Dollars until it closed permanently in 1893. In 1883, the Carson City Mint produced 1,204,000 coins, which was the smallest output among the four active branch mints that year.
