{{/presale}}In the early 1960s, a significant discovery was made in the Treasury vaults – a large quantity of uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollars. To make these coins available to the public, the General Services Administration launched the GSA Hoard of Morgans auction program in the 1970s and early 1980s. Among the most popular coins found in the vaults were the 1883 and 1884 coins minted in Carson City, including this 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin. Secure yours today at BGASC!

Your 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin will be delivered in a protective slab with a label indicating the certified grade from the NGC. MS61 coins exhibit diminished mint luster, clusters of large and small contact marks, as well as noticeable hairlines and scuff marks.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1883-CC Silver Dollar Coin showcases Lady Liberty designed by George T. Morgan. This left-profile relief image presents Liberty adorned with the Phrygian cap, with Morgan basing the design on the likeness of a Philadelphia school teacher named Anna Williams. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1883.
Reverse
On the reverse field of the 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Coins, you’ll find the heraldic eagle design of George T. Morgan. This iconic image of the national bird of the United States appears ready to take flight, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. A ribbon ties together decorative laurels beneath the eagle. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, CC, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
1883 Morgan Silver Dollars produced at the Carson City Mint had a total mintage of 1,204,000. However, when the GSA Hoard was discovered, 755,000 of them were 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollars. That means less than half of the original mintage was ever released with the other 755,000 being locked away in a Treasury vault. In total, almost 3 million Morgan Silver Dollars make up the GSA Hoard with over 95% of them being from the now-defunct Carson City Mint. Of the 3 million found, 2,322,000 were from 1882-1884 alone.
