Obverse

For the obverse of these Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, Lady Liberty is shown wearing a Phrygian cap. Traditionally, these hats were worn as symbols of freedom. Ms. Liberty also has a band inscribed with the word Liberty as well as a crown of wheat. Below the effigy, you will find the coins year of mintage.

Reverse

For the reverse of 1883-O Morgan Silver Dollars, there is a bald eagle rendition. This motif shows the bird facing forward with open wings, its head turned to the left. Flanking the bird are decorative laurels tied at their ends with a ribbon. Inscriptions on the reverse are included and read United States of America, In God We Trust, One Dollar.

History

The Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878, replacing the Seated Liberty Dollar that had circulated for the previous three decades. The coin stayed in production until 1904. It returned briefly in 1921 and then again in 2021 for a special 100th-anniversarycommemorative strike.
