These 1886 Morgan Dollar Coins were originally struck at the United States Mint. Later, they were sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation for certification. Following professional inspection, the coins were assigned a grade of Mint State 63. To confirm this, the coins reside in sealed slabs that include a label with the certification details.

Obverse

For the obverse of these Morgan Silver Dollars Lady Liberty appears facing to the left. Shown from the neck-up, Ms. Liberty appears strong and noble as she wears a crown of wheat and a Phrygian cap. You will also find the coins mintage year inscribed below the effigy.

Reverse

For the reverse of this 1886 Morgan Silver Dollar, a bald eagle rendition is presented. Also designed by George T. Morgan, this reverse artwork has been praised for its more naturalistic depiction of Americas national bird. Below the design, the coins denomination is inscribed.

History

This classic silver dollar was designed on both sides by George T. Morgan. At the time, Morgan was the assistant engraver at the U.S. Mint. After the death of Charles Barber in 1917, Morgan then became the mints 7th Chief Engraver. While Mr. Morgan is credited with several memorable designs (including the never produced $100 Gold Union piece), the Morgan Dollar is unquestionably his masterpiece.
