Obverse
Emperor Franz Joseph I is depicted in the obverse design of 1892 Austrian Gold Coin. Franz Joseph I was the last Hapsburg ruler and the last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His effigy featured on countless currencies used by the empire. This particular design captures his bust in right-profile relief with a laurel wreath crown on his head.
Reverse
The coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian Empire is found in the reverse design of the 1892 20 Francs/8 Florin Austrian Gold Coins. This design reflects the rule of the Hapsburgs and comes with a double-headed eagle with a shield supported in front of it.
History
This modern restrike bears a critical date from the history of Austro-Hungarian coinage. In 1892, the empire adopted the gold standard for its coinage. As a multinational empire, the Franc used in Austria cocirculated alongside the Florin that was used in parts of Austria and in Hungary. As such, these modern restrikes come with face values of 20 Francs and 8 Florin.
