Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, is credited with designing the Liberty Head Eagle Coin in 1838. The $10 gold coin became one of the most enduring designs in US Mint history. Though used on several denominations, including the $5 and $2.50 Eagles, the $10 Liberty Eagle had the longest production run, from 1838 until 1907. Now, certified 1895 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins are available from BGASC.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 1895 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin features a left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty, designed by Christian Gobrecht in 1838. She wears a coronet crown, and the field is surrounded by stars, with the year of minting at the bottom.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1895 $10 Liberty Eagle Coins is the image of the heraldic eagle, also designed by Gobrecht. The eagle is shown with wings spread, holding the US national shield on its chest. In its talons are arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both war and peace. These Type II coins feature a banner above the eagle with the national motto.

History

In 1895, the production of $10 Liberty Gold Eagles was lower compared to other years of the 1890s. The Philadelphia Mint produced the majority of these coins, minting over 567,000 of them. Other mints like New Orleans and San Francisco also contributed smaller numbers.
