Obverse

The obverse design of the 1898 Morgan Dollar features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief, wearing a Phrygian cap, laurel wreath, and coronet crown. This design, created by George T. Morgan, has become an iconic image in American coinage.

Reverse

On the reverse, youll find the heraldic eagle, another of Morgan’s designs. The eagle is shown in a front-facing pose, clutching an olive branch in one talon and arrows in the other, symbolizing peace and strength.

History

In 1898, the Morgan Dollar was minted at various U.S. Mint facilities, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The Philadelphia Mint led production with 5.884 million coins, followed by New Orleans and San Francisco.
