Philadelphia led the production with a total of 5,884,000 coins.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1898-O Morgan Dollar Coins, you will find the iconic image of Lady Liberty designed by George T. Morgan. This design features Liberty in left-profile relief, wearing a Phrygian cap and a coronet crown, adorned with a laurel wreath. Surrounding her are 13 stars and the date mark.

Reverse

The reverse design of the 1898-O Morgan Silver Dollar features the heraldic eagle. This imagery shows the American bald eagle in a front-facing pose, with wings spread wide, clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

History

The New Orleans Mint played a crucial role in the production of Morgan Silver Dollars. The series was minted annually from 1878 to 1904, and after a 17-year gap, the Morgan Dollar returned in 1921 for a single year. The mint issued coins each year from 1879 to 1904, reopening after the Civil War in 1879 and closing in 1909, thus missing the inaugural 1878 release and the final 1921 issue.
