Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint, this coin was introduced in 1838 and used for the $10, $5, and $2.50 denominations. Each 1901 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin available here is graded Mint State 64. This condition offers good luster, along with minor contact marks and some hairlines. These marks may appear in prominent areas, and the hairlines might be light but visible in patches.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 1901 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin by Christian Gobrecht features Liberty in left-profile relief, wearing a crown. The coin is surrounded by 13 stars, symbolizing the original colonies, with the year “1901” engraved at the bottom.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1901 Liberty Gold Eagle Coin bears the classic image of the heraldic eagle, holding arrows and an olive branch, with the national shield displayed on its chest. As a Type II coin, it includes a banner over the eagle featuring the national motto.
History
In 1901, the production of $10 Liberty Eagles surged at the Philadelphia Mint. The mint struck 1.7 million coins that year, significantly more than the previous year. With smaller contributions from the San Francisco and New Orleans Mints, the total production for 1901 reached more than 2.8 million coins.
