During the production of the 1904 Liberty Gold Double Eagle, history was made at the Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints. They achieved the highest combined mintage ever recorded in the program’s history. At Philadelphia alone, a remarkable 6.256 million coins were minted, marking not only the highest mintage for any branch of the Liberty Gold Eagle design but also the second-highest mintage in the history of the broader Gold Double Eagle series, surpassed only by the 1928 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint.
