From 1838 to 1907, the US Mint issued the Liberty Head Eagle, a $10 gold coin known for its long history in the Eagle coin series. Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the US Mint, introduced this iconic design in 1838. It appeared on several denominations, including the $10, $5, and $2.50 Eagles, with the $10 coin having the longest minting run. Now, you can purchase 1907 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition at BGASC.

Obverse

On the obverse of 1907 Liberty Gold Eagles, Lady Liberty is portrayed in a left-profile relief, wearing a coronet crown. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, her image is encircled by 13 stars representing the original colonies, with the year below her portrait.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1907 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features the classic image of the heraldic eagle. The bald eagle holds the national shield, clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. As a Type II coin, the national motto appears on a banner above the eagle.

History

The year 1907 marked a turning point for the US Mint, as it transitioned from the Liberty Head design by Christian Gobrecht to Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Indian Head. Both designs were minted in 1907, with Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco all producing Liberty Head Eagles. Coins from Philadelphia bear no mint mark, while those from Denver and San Francisco feature “D” and “S” marks, respectively.
