It was the last design featured on the $20 Double Eagle coin before production ceased in 1933. Produced by the United States Mint, this coin was made from 1907 to 1933, with a brief pause due to World War I. Each 1910-S Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin available through BGASC is graded Mint State 63. Coins in this condition will show small contact marks and hairlines, but these imperfections are barely noticeable without magnification.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1910-S $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, youll find Augustus Saint-Gaudens famous design of Lady Liberty. This full-length portrait shows Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. In the background, the U.S. Capitol Building, a ring of stars, and rays of light can be seen.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1910-S Pre-33 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin depicts a bald eagle in flight, soaring through the sky with its wings spread wide. The sun rises from the bottom of the design, and rays of light shine outward toward the edges of the coin.
History
The 1910 release of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles saw production at three different U.S. Mint facilities: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Of these, the San Francisco Mint produced the highest number, with over 2.128 million coins. The Denver and Philadelphia Mints issued much smaller quantities of 429,000 and 482,000, respectively.
