The Austria 100 Corona is a gold bullion coin struck by the Mint of Austria. The Austria 100 Corona was one of the earliest coins marketed to individual gold bullion buyers as demand for owning gold accelerated through the 1960’s. The 1915 100 Corona is a “restrike” of a coin that never existed (there is no original 1915 Austria 100 Corona) but the Austrian government used the 1915 date to circumvent the ban against owning gold in the U.S. that was in effect from 1933-1974 (since coins dated prior to 1933 were legal to own according to the U.S. government because they were considered to have “collectible interest”). The 100 Corona gold bullion coin contains .9803 of a troy ounce of pure gold and has a gross weight of 33.88 grams (90% of which is gold).

Coin Highlights

  • 100 Corona denomination
  • Each coin contains 0.9803 troy oz of actual gold weight
  • One of the earliest gold bullion coins
  • Striking large size and edge inscription
  • 1915 date made it legal to own in U.S. during the 1933-1974 ban on owning gold

The obverse of all 1915 100 Corona Austrian Gold Coins features the left-profile bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I. Crowned the King of Hungary and Emperor of Austria in December 1848, Franz Joseph I would rule Europes third-largest empire for almost 68 years until his death in 1916. Joseph I oversaw the rapid expansion and growth of the empire, but also its entrance into World War I. That conflict, though he was dead before its conclusion, led to the dissolution of the empire.

The reverse of all 1915 100 Corona Austrian Gold Coin Restrikes includes the crowned double-headed eagle of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The shield of the Hapsburg Dynasty is the centerpiece, honoring the ruling family of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

These 100 Corona Gold coins ship in individual coin flips. If you have any questions about this coin or the purchasing process, call us toll free or send an email to customer service and one of our friendly representatives will be happy to assist you.
