The Indian Head Eagle design was the final one to appear on the historic $10 Eagle gold coin from the United States Mint. Introduced in 1907 and created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this design is notable for blending historic representations of Lady Liberty with elements of American indigenous culture, particularly through the addition of a feathered headdress. Today, 1932-Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coins in certified condition are available at BGASC.

All 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Gold Eagle Coins offered here come in NGC plastic slabs with a grade of Mint State 65. Coins in this grade exhibit high-quality luster for the date and a few small, scattered contact marks. There may be one or two larger marks and small patches of hairlines, but overall, the coins eye appeal remains very pleasing.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1932 $10 Indian Gold Eagles features Saint-Gaudens left-profile bust of Liberty. Liberty is depicted in left-profile relief with a feathered headdress on her head. The band on the headdress bears the word Liberty, and there is an arch of 13 stars above her head.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1932 Pre-33 $10 Indian Eagle Coins displays the American bald eagle. The eagle is perched on a sheaf of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. The field includes the national motto, denomination, and nation of issue.

History

The 1932 Indian Eagle stands out for its high mintage, the highest in the Indian Eagle Series’ history. Indian Eagles were initially struck on an annual basis from 1907 to 1916, with the Philadelphia Mint, San Francisco Mint, and Denver Mint regularly contributing to production of the coins during this era. In 1920, the coin returned to production, but was only issued in 1920, 1926, 1930, 1932, and 1933. The Philadelphia Mint struck the coins in 1926, 1932, and 1933, while San Francisco issued the coins in 1920 and 1930.
