Despite this, the South African Mint continued to grow the series by introducing fractional-ounce coins. Right now, 1981 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
The 1981 1/4 oz South African Gold Krugerrand Coin is individually packaged in a protective flip to ensure it arrives in excellent condition. The fractional-ounce coins, introduced in 1980, included 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold options. All Krugerrand coins are made from 22-karat gold, consisting of 91.67% gold and 8.33% copper, which gives them a rich, golden hue.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1981 South African Gold Krugerrand Coin, you will find the classic portrait of Paul Kruger. This design, created by Otto Schultz, was first introduced on South African Pound coins and has since become the central feature of Krugerrand coins.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1981 1/4 Gold Krugerrand Coins showcases a depiction of the Springbok antelope, mid-stride and in right-profile relief. As a symbol of South Africas wildlife, the Springbok highlights the countrys natural beauty and the importance of its diverse wildlife.
History
The Krugerrand design traces its origins back to the late 1800s. Otto Schultz created a portrait of Paul Kruger in 1892 for the South African pound, featuring the then-president of the South African Republic. This iconic profile, complete with Kruger’s trademark beard, became the basis for Krugers portrayal on South African currency, including the Gold Krugerrand series.

When the subtotal of your purchase, including applicable discounts, is $199 or more, you receive free shipping for your entire order. In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
