The Royal Canadian Mint launched the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series in 1979, providing a high-purity gold option that became a global alternative to the South African Krugerrand. During this time, trade restrictions on South African products sparked interest in a new gold bullion choice. Right now, 1986 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins are available from BGASC.

  • Arrives in a protective plastic flip!
  • 8th release in the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Series!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a $10 (CAD) face value backed by Canada.
  • Obverse features Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Reverse depicts the well-known sugar maple leaf.

Each 1986 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin arrives in a protective plastic flip. Originally launched in 1979 with a 1 oz coin, the series expanded in 1982 to include the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins. The Gold Maple Leafs renowned purity and timeless designs have cemented it as a top choice, with the sugar maple leaf emblem being a defining element of the series.

Obverse

The obverse of each 1986 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf includes a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artist Arnold Machin. This portrait is significant as the last effigy of Her Majesty used on Canadian coins designed by a British artist, adding unique historical value.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1986 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins, Walter Otts beautiful sugar maple leaf design is featured, symbolizing Canadas natural beauty. This emblem of Canada has been featured on every Gold Maple Leaf coin since the series debuted, becoming a lasting symbol of Canadian pride.

History

During the 1980s, the Gold Maple Leaf Series became increasingly popular in Europe and Asia, with its high purity and consistent quality appreciated by collectors and investors alike. The Royal Canadian Mint has continued enhancing its minting techniques, adding features like radial lines and a micro-engraved maple leaf privy in 2013 to ensure authenticity.
