The 1 oz coin bears the W mint mark from the West Point, while the remaining three come from the Philadelphia Mint. Delivered in a captivating display box with a Certificate of Authenticity confirming the year of issue, all coins boast an impressive composition of 91.67% actual gold content, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1988 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle Set, each coin features the image of Lady Liberty, a design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Commissioned by President Roosevelt to create a new design for American gold coinage, Saint-Gaudens depicted Liberty confidently striding forward with a torch and an olive branch. The torch symbolizes hope and guidance, while the olive branch represents America’s commitment to peace and friendship.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1988 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle Set showcases the family of American bald eagles, portrayed in their nest. The female eagle watches over her hatchlings, while the male eagle fiercely guards them from above. Crafted in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this iconic depiction captures the spirit of American Eagles.
History
1988 marks the first year in this series to feature four weights for Proof American Gold Eagles. The collection debuted in 1986 with only a 1 oz gold coin. This was followed by the introduction of the 1/2 oz coin in 1987, and the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins in 1988.

When the subtotal of your purchase, including applicable discounts, is $199 or more, you receive free shipping for your entire order. In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All products are discreetly packaged and shipped with full insurance included.
Most BGASC orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
