Obverse
The obverse of 1989-S Proof American Silver Eagles showcases a left-profile relief portrait of Lady Liberty draped in the American flag. Carrying branches of oak and laurel, Libertys figure is depicted walking toward the sun on the horizon.
Reverse
On the reverse side, 1989-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Coins feature a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This design shows a bald eagle in front-facing relief with spread wings behind the US national shield. First designed in 1794 by Robert Scot, this seal was modernized for this coin release by John Mercanti.
History
The inaugural release of the Proof Silver Eagle in 1986 remains the highest-minted coin in the proof collections history, boasting a mintage of 1.446 million. The late 1980s saw a brief and significant decline in interest, but as 1989 transitioned into 1990, demand rebounded, showing year-over-year gains between 1988 and 1990.

When the subtotal of your purchase, including applicable discounts, is $199 or more, you receive free shipping for your entire order. In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies.
