On the obverse of the American Silver Eagle is the iconic image of Walking Liberty, created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916. Originally featured on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar circulation coin until 1947, it portrays Liberty walking toward a setting sun.
Reverse
The reverse of all 1991 Proof American Silver Eagle coins includes the heraldic eagle of the United States. First used in 1794, this design was refined by US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti in 1986.
