Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1993 American Gold Eagles, you will find Lady Liberty. This design, created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, showcases Liberty in full-length relief, walking confidently toward the viewer while holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. In the background, the U.S. Capitol Building is featured, surrounded by a ring of stars and distant sunrays.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1993 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins displays an American bald eagle family. This imagery, designed by Miley Busiek in 1986 specifically for this coin, shows a male eagle soaring above the nest while a female eagle watches over her hatchlings within.

History

The U.S. Mint’s introduction of the Gold Eagle in 1986 was a significant milestone for gold coins in the country. Although these coins are not intended for circulation, they were the first U.S. gold coins issued since 1933, and they are the purest coins produced since 1834. American Gold Eagles are composed of 22-karat gold, made up of 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
