History
Through much of the 1990s, the American Silver Eagle experienced declining sales due to a robust US economy and a strong dollar. The lowest point was in 1996, with only 4.1 million coins sold. However, in 1997, sales saw a slight increase to 4.7 million coins, signaling the start of four consecutive years of rising demand. This uptick was largely driven by concerns about the Y2K issue and its potential impact on banking and the economy.
