History

Since its introduction in 1986, the American Gold Eagle series has held the prestigious position of the official U.S. gold bullion coin. These coins, authorized by Congress under the American Eagle Bullion Program, have consistently attracted investors. The heightened demand for the 1999 coin was driven by the uncertainty surrounding the Y2K phenomenon.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1999 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle Coin, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, depicts Lady Liberty striding forward, holding a torch and an olive branch, encircled by sun rays and stars. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, and 1999.

Reverse

Crafted by Miley Busiek, the reverse of the 1999 American Gold Eagle Coin features a group of eagles, portraying a male eagle presenting an olive branch to a nesting female with her hatchlings. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/10 OZ FINE GOLD, and 5 DOLLARS.
