{{/presale}}The Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin was first issued by the Austrian Mint in 1989 and has grown to be one of the most popular coins in the world, consistently recognized as Europes top-selling gold coin. The series began with 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins, originally featuring face values in Austrian schillings. In 2002, the coins transitioned to Euro denominations. Currently, you can find 2002 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins available at BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2002 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin available here comes with a protective plastic flip. The 1 oz coin has a long-standing history in the series alongside the 1/4 oz gold coin. Since its introduction in 1989, the 1 oz Gold Philharmonic has consistently featured the same designs created by Thomas Pesendorfer.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2002 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin, youll see a detailed image of the Great Pipe Organ, located in the Golden Concert Hall of the Musikverein. The Musikverein is home to several concert halls, with the Golden Concert Hall being the primary venue for performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2002 1 oz Gold Philharmonic Coin features a beautifully arranged display of musical instruments. This design showcases a cello at the center, flanked by two violins, with a background that includes a French horn, a bassoon, and a harp.
History
From 1989 until 2001, the Austrian Philharmonic coins were issued with a face value in Austrian schillings, which was the official currency of Austria at that time. Following the adoption of the Euro in 2002, the Austrian Mint adjusted the coins’ face values to reflect this new currency. Its worth noting that these coins are legal tender only in Austria.
