Obverse

The 2004 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin’s obverse design showcases the Golden Concert Hall’s famous pipe organ, which was installed in the concert hall during the early 1900s. The obverse design also features an image of the concert hall itself, where the pipe organ can be found.

Reverse

On the reverse design field of the 2004 1 oz Gold Philharmonic Coin, the Austrian Mint has depicted various musical instruments used by the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. These instruments include a cello, four violins, a bassoon, a harp, and a horn, and have been beautifully rendered by the mint.

History

Following its introduction in 1989, the Gold Philharmonic quickly shot to popularity. In 1990, it was the best-selling coin in Europe and the second-best-selling coin in the world. Today, it remains an annual best-seller among other popular 1 oz gold bullion coins.
