The obverse of the 2005 Australia Gold Lunar Rooster Coin hosts the 4th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II featuring the renowned Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This portrait was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, IRB, and 5 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2005 1/20 oz Australia Lunar Rooster Coin brings to life a majestic Rooster, complete with feathery plumage details, perched amid rocks and foliage as the rising sun completes the design. Inscriptions read 2005 and 1/20 OZ 9999 GOLD.
History
First launched in 1996, the Perth Mint’s annual Lunar Series celebrates the ancient Chinese lunisolar calendar over a 12-year cycle. The Series I coins were initially issued in 1 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz gold weights, with larger sizes of 1 kg, 10 oz, and 2 oz added starting in 2000. A 1/2 oz was included from 2004 onward, and even a massive 10 kg version was later struck.
