{{/presale}}The dog is the second-to-last animal in the 12-year Lunar Calendar cycle. The Perth Mint has been producing its popular Lunar Series coin collections since 1996, starting with Lunar Series I. The silver coins in this series began three years later in 1999. Right now, you can find the 2006 1/2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coins available at BGASC.
Highlights:
The 2006 1/2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coin is packaged in an acrylic capsule. Although the Dog is the 11th animal in the Zodiac cycle, the Perth Mint’s delayed release of silver coins meant this coin is the eighth in the silver series.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2006 Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coin features Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This portrait appeared on Royal Mint coins and was used by the Perth Mint from 1998 until 2018/2019.
Reverse
On the reverse side, youll see a German shepherd. Originally bred for herding and guarding sheep in Germany, German Shepherds are now one of the most versatile and popular dog breeds. They are known for their roles in police work, search and rescue, assisting individuals with disabilities, and even appearing in movies and TV shows.
History
In the Chinese zodiac, the Dog is the eleventh animal in the 12-year cycle. In the Chinese calendar, the Dog year is associated with the element of Earth. This combination is thought to bring a sense of practicality, stability, and grounding. However, it can also lead to a tendency towards conservatism and a resistance to change.
