Each 2009 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin in this offering is in an individual plastic flip. These coins experienced a significant jump in demand compared to one year prior, thanks in large part of the onset of the Great Recession.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin proudly displays the iconic image of Liberty, a masterpiece created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Originally gracing the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933, this design remains a testament to the artistic legacy of US circulation currency.

Reverse

Turn the coin over to admire the exclusive reverse design by Miley Busiek, crafted in 1986. It portrays a nest filled with American bald eagle hatchlings, carefully watched over by a female bald eagle, while a male bald eagle soars overhead, clutching an olive branch in its talon.

History

During the tumultuous Great Recession, the 2009 1 oz American Gold Eagle emerged as a symbol of stability, boasting one of the highest mintage figures since 1999. Investors flocked to the safety of precious metals during this period of economic uncertainty.

Produced by the United States Mint, the 2009 1 oz American Gold Eagle and its counterparts were originally struck at various mints. Today, they are exclusively crafted at the prestigious West Point Mint in New York.
