The Mexican Libertad bullion series began in 1981 with the release of Gold Libertad coins. These coins featured designs based on the classic 1921 Gold Centenario, a coin created to commemorate 100 years of Mexicos independence from Spain. Today, the Gold Libertad remains a favorite among collectors and investors. Right now, 2011 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coins are available at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic flip!
  • 16th release of 1 oz Gold Libertads!
  • Limited mintage of just 3,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Obverse depicts Mexicos coat of arms.
  • Reverse shows the Winged Victory design.

Each 2011 1 oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coin is presented in a protective plastic flip for safekeeping. Although the series launched in 1981, it wasnt until 2002 that Gold Libertads became an annual issue. With a declared mintage of just 3,000 coins in 2011, these coins are much rarer than the 596,000 coins minted during the first year of production.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2011 Mexican Gold Libertad showcases Mexicos national coat of arms. This emblem depicts an eagle devouring a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus, a symbol of the founding of Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City. The coat of arms is surrounded by 10 historic versions of the emblem.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2011 1 oz Gold Libertad Coin, Winged Victory stands tall. As a symbol of Mexican independence, the statue holds a laurel wreath and broken chains, representing victory and freedom. The mountains of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl can be seen in the background, enhancing the beautiful design.

History

The Mexican Libertad series started with the Gold Libertad but has expanded over the years to include silver and proof versions of the coins. All Libertads, regardless of composition, feature the same timeless design elements.
