The birth of Jesus Christ is one of the more hotly debated historical moments. There is no accurate record of the exact date of his birth, with the calendars used in the ancient era not aligned in the same manner that modern calendars are. However, Western Christianity has observed the birth of Christ as Christmas Day on December 25th for centuries.
Obverse
Obverse design elements on the 1 oz Silver Merry Christmas Rounds include a portrait of Santa Claus. In the 19th century, Santa Claus became more closely associated with the Christmas holiday as a twist on the 4th century Greek Bishop Saint Nicholas. It was at this time that the modern image of Santa Claus emerged as an older man with a portly frame, white hair, and a white beard. In this three-quarter right-profile portrait, Santa is grinning at you with his flowing beard and snowflakes in the background.
Reverse
For the reverse design of Silver 2021 Merry Christmas Rounds, the Golden State Mint depicts a variety of different snowflakes. In real life, snowflakes come in a variety of sizes and shapes, with no two snowflakes being exactly the same. This side has various shapes and sizes of snowflakes falling through the field with a ribbon at the center that has 2021 inscribed in it. The GSM logo is at the bottom of the design field.
