The NGC awards a Mint State 69 certification to coins displaying full, original mint luster and showing no more than two minor detracting flaws. At this level, acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines outside the primary focal points of the coin. Additionally, the Early Release designation indicates these coins were graded by the NGC within 30 days of the US Mints release.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021 (P) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins showcases Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty, a design dating back to 1916. It portrays Liberty striding towards the rising sun over a mountain peak. Liberty can be seen holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Inscriptions read IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse side of these 2021 (P) 1 oz American Eagle CoinS, you’ll find a modern rendition of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This year marks the final availability of this image. Modified in 1986 by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, this design has been iconic. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
The West Point Mint has been the primary producer of American Eagle coins since 2001, handling all versions of the American Silver Eagle, alongside the American Platinum Eagle and American Gold Eagle programs. The San Francisco Mint has been lending support since 2011, while the Philadelphia Mint, in 2020, issued its first BU Silver Eagles in 20 years under an emergency coining program to meet the demand.
