Australia introduced the florin in 1910, a notable event in its early coinage history, just nine years post-federation. In 2021, the Perth Mint reintroduced this coin design with a fresh bullion series. BGASC now offers 2022 1/4 oz Australian Platinum Florin Coins.

Highlights:

  • Packaged in a protective plastic flip!
  • First issue of a Platinum Florin!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .9995 pure platinum.
  • Issued with a $25 (AUD) face value backed by Australia.
  • Queen Elizabeth II is depicted on the obverse.
  • The reverse includes Australias original florin coat of arms design.

Each 2022 1/4 oz Australian Platinum Florin Coin offered here arrives in a protective plastic flip to keep it safe. This is the third release in the Perth Mints Florin series, following 2021s 2 oz silver and 1/4 oz gold versions. This 2022 coin is the series first platinum release, marking an exciting expansion.

Obverse

On the obverse, the 2022 Australian Platinum Florin features the sixth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Created by Jody Clark in 2015, this right-profile relief of Her Majesty includes the George IV State Diadem.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2022 1/4 oz Platinum Florins, youll find the original Australian coat of arms, introduced with the first florin in 1910. This historic symbol includes a kangaroo and emu on either side of a shield, representing Australias national pride and unity. The Commonwealth Star above, with seven points, reflects the six states and one territory of Australia, expressing the strength of the federation.

History

The original Australian florin was struck in sterling silver and featured King Edward VII on the obverse. Produced by the Royal Mint in Melbourne, this coin highlighted Australias emerging national identity and economic autonomy. Modeled after Britains florin, introduced in 1847 under Queen Victoria, this coin represented two shillings in pre-decimal currency.
