History
The reign of Queen Victoria was the longest of any English monarch to that point and defined an era. The Victoria Monument, built after her death, showcased the six virtues believed to have defined her rule during that era, among them Justice: the unflinching commitment to the moral force of law, and opposition to corruption and lawlessness. The creators of the monument reached heavily into Neoclassical themes and allegory to realize their vision of these virtues, a vision that has remained relevant and ready to be celebrated by the East India Company’s Queen Virtues series over a century later.
