{{/presale}}The Royal Mint introduced British Gold Britannias in 1987. These coins are a notable part of British gold bullion, symbolizing the nation’s heritage and people. Since the beginning, the series has only featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Following her passing in September 2022, The Royal Mint issued one last coin with her image before transitioning to King Charles III. Now, you can purchase certified 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins online at BGASC.
Highlights:
These 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins display full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor flaws. These small imperfections are limited to tiny contact marks or hairlines outside the main focal points. As part of the Last 500 struck, these coins represent the final batch of 2023 Britannias featuring Queen Elizabeth II.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2023 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coins, the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is shown. Her Majesty appears in right-profile relief at the age of 89. This design, created by Jody Clark in 2015, is the fifth effigy of the Queen used on British coins.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2023 British Gold Britannia showcases a depiction of Britannia. This full-length figure shows Britannia wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in her extended right hand, and an olive branch in her left hand. Philip Nathan designed this iconic image in 1987 for The Royal Mint.
History
For over 30 years, The Royal Mint has depicted Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse of Britannia bullion coins. Just as many British citizens have only known Elizabeth II as their sovereign, the Britannia Series has consistently showcased her portrait. After her death, the 2023 series began with her image on the obverse before featuring King Charles III.
