Obverse
In the obverse design of the 2023 American Gold Eagle, the US Mint features Augustus Saint-Gaudens iconic vision of Liberty. This front-facing relief shows the full-length figure of Liberty striding toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other hand. There are stars around the ring of the design, sun rays in the background, and the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet.
Reverse
For the reverse face of 2023 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins, the new image of the American bald eagle from Jennie Norris is depicted in left-profile relief. This design features on the head of the eagle and captures both its steely gaze and thick plumage with exceptional levels of detail.
History
The new reverse design of American Gold Eagles debuted in 2021. This year marked the 35th anniversary of the series and saw the US Mint introduce new reverse designs for the first time ever on both the Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle.
