All 1 oz Don’t Mess with Texas Gonzales Cannon Silver Rounds in this online listing will be delivered in new condition. The rounds were struck in .999 pure silver at Intaglio Mint and will arrive in protective packaging. Individual rounds are placed in plastic flips, while multiples of 20 ship in tubes.
Obverse
Across the obverse of 1 oz Don’t Mess with Texas Silver Rounds there is a rendering of the Gonzales cannon. The cannon is mounted on wheels and faces slightly to the left. Below the weapon, there is a brick carved with the date 1835.
Reverse
Upon the reverse of Don’t Mess with Texas Gonzales Cannon Silver Rounds, there is a longhorn skull surrounded by olive and oak branches. There are also inscriptions of the series name along with the weight, purity, and metal type.
History
The weapon that sparked the Texas Revolution, the Gonzales cannon carries with it an almost mythological quality. This bronze weapon was not terribly powerful, but when Texas settlers refused to return it to the Mexican army, a skirmish broke out that instigated strong revolutionary sentiments. Ultimately, the rebel colonists of Texas would achieve independence in 1836 and form the Republic of Texas.
