Obverse
On the obverse side of 2023 Republic of Sierra Leone King Tutankhamun Silver Coins, youll find the Republic of Sierra Leone coat of arms. In this official design, there is a shield supported by a pair of lions. There are also two palm trees and the countrys motto of Unity, Freedom, and Justice.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2023 Republic of Sierra Leone 1 oz Silver Coins contains the death mask of King Tutankhamun. This iconic artifact was first discovered in 1922 and is currently located at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. The design also features decorative hieroglyphic inscriptions in the background.
History
Following his death, Tutankhamuns body was laid in a series of 3 coffins, each fitting inside the other. However, the designers did not consider the length of the sarcophagus and ended up having to shave the end off of the outer coffin. No one bothered to sweep up the shavings and they were still there when Howard Carter discovered the tomb over 3000 years later. Also present were over 5000 artifacts, including the iconic golden death mask.
