Obverse
Designed by Anthony di Francisci, the 2023 Peace Silver Dollar displays a left-profile bust of Liberty, representing the desire for peace. The depiction featured gentle facial features and a radiant crown of light.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2023 Peace Dollar showcases an American bald eagle. Perched on the edge of a rocky cliff, the eagle is shown with folded wings, holding only an olive branch in its talons.
History
Back in 1921, the US Mint resumed silver dollar production after a hiatus that began in 1904 when the Morgan Silver Dollar was last minted. The mint reintroduced the Morgan Dollar design in 1921 while also working on a new design. By December of that year, the mint was ready with the new design. The Peace Silver Dollar first appeared on December 27, 1921, with a mintage of just over 1 million coins.
