{{/presale}}The Pitcairn Islands and the famous mutiny aboard the HMS Bounty in 1789 are forever intertwined. Today, the Pitcairn Islands remain a British Overseas Territory, with many of its residents tracing their ancestry back to the mutineers who made the islands their home. You can now purchase the 2024 1/2 Gram Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2024 1/2 Gram Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coin is available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This 1/2 Gram Gold Bounty is the smallest in the series, offered in both gold and silver. Each coin comes in a protective plastic capsule directly from the mint.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2024 Pitcairn Islands Gold Bounty Coins, youll find a portrait of King Charles III. This left-profile bust, designed by Glyn Davies, shows the King without a crown. It is one of many new portraits of him used on Commonwealth coinage.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2024 1/2 Gram Gold Bounty Coins showcases the HMS Bounty. Though the mutiny happened over two centuries ago, it has continued to captivate the public, inspiring numerous books, films, and other media. This cultural phenomenon has made it one of the most famous naval incidents, shaping how we view 18th-century maritime life.
History
Fletcher Christian and eight other mutineers, along with six Tahitian men, 12 Tahitian women, and a child, eventually settled on the remote Pitcairn Island in January 1790. They burned the Bounty to avoid detection and to prevent anyone from leaving. The 16 mutineers who stayed in Tahiti were eventually arrested by the HMS Pandora in 1791. Four drowned when the Pandora sank, and the remaining 10 were court-martialed in England. Three were hanged, four were acquitted, and three were pardoned.
