The Mexican Libertad Series, launched by the Mexican Mint in 1981, has been a favorite among collectors and investors alike. Initially introduced as a gold coin series, it quickly expanded in 1982 to include silver coins, starting with the 1 oz option. In 1991, smaller, fractional-ounce coins were added, with the 1/2 oz Silver Libertad being the largest of these new sizes. Now, BGASC is pleased to offer the 2024 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin.

Highlights:

  • Coin comes in an individual plastic flip!
  • 34th edition of the 1/2 oz Silver Libertad Coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • Obverse displays the national coat of arms of Mexico.
  • Reverse depicts the Winged Victory statue.

Each 2024 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coin arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition and is packaged in an individual plastic flip. The 1/2 oz coin is a popular choice, but its mintage numbers have varied significantly over the years. Early issues, particularly in the early 1990s, saw higher production, with the 1992 coin reaching over 100,000 minted pieces. Recent years have seen lower mintages, making these coins even more desirable.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Mexican Silver Libertad Coin features Mexico’s national coat of arms. This iconic symbol, inspired by an Aztec design from 1524, shows a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus while consuming a snake.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2024 1/2 oz Silver Libertad, you will find the majestic Winged Victory statue, a symbol of Mexico’s independence. Standing tall on the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, the statue is set against the backdrop of the famous Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl mountains.

History

From 1982 to 1990, the 1 oz Silver Libertad was the only silver option available. In 1991, the Mexican Mint introduced fractional sizes, including the 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins. These smaller denominations have mostly been produced annually, with a few exceptions, such as the 2012 1/20 oz coin.
