Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Colorized Australian Silver Chinese Myths and Legends Four Guardians Coin showcases a left-profile bust of King Charles III, marking his first appearance on Australian coinage. Created by Dan Thorne in 2024, this image presents a modern perspective of the new monarch without a crown.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2024 1 oz Colorized Silver Myths and Legends Lan Four Guardians Coin, you will see the four powerful protectors of Chinese mythology. The turtle takes center stage, flanked by the tiger on its left and the dragon below, with the phoenix soaring above. A snake is also depicted next to the turtle, and the P125 mint mark commemorates the Perth Mints 125th anniversary in 2024.

History

The Vermillion Bird, a phoenix-like creature, represents summer and the fire element among the Four Guardians. This magnificent bird symbolizes transformation, resilience, and the powerful yang energy. Unlike the Western phoenix, the Vermillion Bird is not tied to resurrection but embodies the endless cycle of celestial movements and the sun’s path across the sky. In classical Chinese texts, this bird often serves as a messenger between the realms of heaven and earth.
