History
The Flowing Hair Dollar, first minted in 1794 and 1795, holds the distinction of being the first official silver dollar issued by the U.S. federal government. The coin depicted Liberty with flowing hair on the obverse, a design that symbolized freedom and hope for the new nation. On the reverse, the coin showed an eagle surrounded by a wreath. Though only around 160,000 were struck, this coin is an important part of American history, representing the beginning of the nations monetary independence.
