{{/presale}}First released in 2018, the South Korean Tiger series has become one of KOMSCOs standout collections. Each year, a new obverse design is introduced, with the final design unveiled in 2024. The series concludes with a stunning depiction of the Korean tiger. 2024 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medals are available online from BGASC.
Highlights:
These 2024 1 oz South Korean Tiger Silver Medals are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. They come individually in plastic flips, in tubes of 25, or in boxes of 250 medals (10 tubes per box).
Obverse
The obverse of the 2024 1 oz Tiger Silver Medal showcases a fierce Korean tiger. In this final design, the tiger leaps forward from the dense forest, capturing the essence of a hunt. An engraved paw print and the name of Hallasan add to the design’s detail. Hallasan National Park, situated on Jeju Island, includes a prominent shield volcano named Hallasan. This volcano is South Korea’s highest peak, standing at 6,388 feet. The park’s beautiful landscapes, including a crater lake within the volcano, are elegantly featured on the medal.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2024 South Korean Tiger Silver Medals, the series’ signature design element is depictedthe Korean peninsula. The peninsula’s shape is formed using characters from the Korean alphabet, omitting political boundaries for a unique representation.
History
Due to habitat loss, overhunting, and human-wildlife conflicts, the tiger population in Korea began to decline rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tigers are believed to have gone extinct in South Korea by the late 1930s or early 1940s, with the last confirmed sighting in the country occurring in 1942.
