The obverse of this 2024 Colorized Australian Silver Lunar Dragon Coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, finely detailed in right-profile relief surrounded by inscriptions. This regal effigy was expertly crafted by acclaimed artist Jody Clark. Inscriptions read AUSTRALIA, 8 DOLLARS, 5 OZ 9999 AG, JC, and ELIZABETH II 1952-2022.
Reverse
The showstopping reverse of the 2024 5 oz Colorized Australian Lunar Dragon Coin presents a vividly colorized rendering of a formidable dragon, captured breathing vivid streaks of fire alongside a flaming pearl. Design elements like the traditional Chinese symbol for “dragon” and the unique “P125” privy mark celebrating the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary are seen under the centerpiece. Inscriptions include DRAGON 2024 and P125.
History
The celebrated Lunar Series from the Perth Mint originated in 1996 showcasing the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac on annual gold coins. Silver compositions debuted in 1999, and after Series I concluded in 2007, Series II featured new reverse designs starting in 2008 with the Year of the Rat. The current Lunar III program began in 2020 displaying fresh designs across multiple unique finishes each year.
